About us
RIKEN Sciverse is brought to you by The RIKEN Global Communications Team, a small group of people within the RIKEN Communications Division who dream that world will someday know what RIKEN is and all the kinds of cool and socially relevant science that RIKEN does. On RIKEN Sciverse, you can find articles about RIKEN's research and the people who make it all possible. In addition to our own content, RIKEN Sciverse also features articles prepared by RIKEN's numerous centers located throughout Japan. We hope our articles are interesting and understandable for everyone, regardless of your scientific background. If you are a scientist looking for collaborators or a place to work, we hope this peek into RIKEN will inspire you. [We welcome feedback]
The Global Communications team

Our Fearlful Leader
Before being institutionalized at the RIKEN institute, Jens worked as a translator and editor in downtown Tokyo. At the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake, he moved to RIKEN, where he now coordinates the institution’s global communications activities. During periods of temporary release he enjoys playing prog rock on synthesizers and guitars and enjoying good cuisine and ethanol-based beverages.

Minister of Messaging
Adam is an ex-researcher with a PhD in neuroscience. Since poking his head out of the lab, he moved (back) to RIKEN to pursue a career in science writing and communication. When he’s all scienced-out, he makes pottery, doodles, and watches Chicago sports. Fly the W!

Science & Tradition
Tomoko likes Pikachu! After obtaining a master's degree in biology, she studied church music for three years. Her dream is to unite tradition and science, ensuring that Gregorian chant is carried into the future (and to improve her organ skills!)
Contributors from across RIKEN

Research Administrator

Research Administrative Support Staff
Linda mainly works on international events and international cooperation related activities with a bit of PR work added to the mix at RIKEN IMS Center Director's Office. In private, enjoys listening to history related podcasts while trying to manage two elementary schoolers.

RIKEN CBS
Atsuko doesn’t have a scientific background, but has experience working as a dental assistant, hotel reservation staff, mobile phone salesperson, English conversation school manager, cruise ship crew member, and even as the person inside a mascot costume. She is a professional who never loses sight of the perspective of the general public—perhaps because that’s the only perspective she knows.

Basic science can be hard to understand.
The people doing it? Usually much easier—and often wonderfully nerdy.
As an editor of science-related articles, I love peeking into the slightly geeky worlds of researchers and sharing what makes them tick.
Come explore the universe with me and enjoy the curious, fascinating, and sometimes wonderfully weird world of science.

RIKEN R-CCS

RIKEN CEMS
Chieko is a high-pressure physics engineer with research experience at NIMS, AIST, and RIKEN. She investigates the physical properties of materials under extreme conditions through experiments at pressures of up to 20 GPa.
